Cornet out of Hungarian tournament

BUDAPEST, Hungary, July 8 (UPI) -- Defending champion Alize Cornet was upset in straight sets Wednesday in second-round action of the $220,000 GDF Suez Grand Prix tournament in Hungary.

Cornet, seeded second in the event where a year ago she recorded her only career tournament victory, was routed 6-2, 6-0 by Shahar Peer. Cornet won just 13 points on serve over seven games while Peer took nearly two-third of the points in the match.

No. 3-seeded Sybille Bammer was also ousted, losing 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 to Edina Gallovits.

Top-seeded Patty Schnyder opened her play at the clay-court tournament with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win over Andrea Petkovic. Schnyder had five aces and four service breaks in the win.

Alona Bondarenko, seeded sixth, needed three sets but beat Ioana Raluca Olaru 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 and Petra Martic took out Mariya Koryttseva in other second-round matches.

The GDF Suez Grand Prix champion will earn $37,000.
