Szavay wins first-rounder in home country

BUDAPEST, Hungary, July 7 (UPI) -- Local favorite Agnes Szavay breezed to a first-round victory Tuesday at the GDF Suez Grand Prix tennis tournament in Hungary.

The fourth-seeded Szavay knocked out fellow Hungarian Katalin Marosi 6-1, 6-1. Marosi got an impressive 81 percent of her first serves in but Szavay was able to win 15 of the 29 points when she did so. Szavay also won all seven points off Marosi's second serve.

No. 2-seeded Alize Cornet stopped Galina Voskoboeva 6-3, 6-1; third-seeded Sybille Bammer defeated Klara Zakopalova 6-2, 6-3; and No. 5-seeded Alisa Kleybanova beat Monica Niculescu 6-0, 6-3.

But seventh-seeded Sara Errani and No. 8-seeded Lucie Safarova were ousted. Errani took the first set but lost 5-7, 6-4, 6-0 to Timea Bacsinszky and Petra Martic was a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 winner over Safarova.

Other players who advanced Tuesday were: Shahar Peer, Tathiana Garbin, Patricia Mayr, Ioana Raluca Olaru, Mariya Koryttseva and Kateryna Bondarenko.
