MLB: St. Louis 5, Milwaukee 0

MILWAUKEE, July 7 (UPI) -- Adam Wainwright pitched 8 1/3 shutout innings Tuesday to pace the St. Louis Cards to a 5-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Wainwright (9-5) struck out nine while giving up seven hits and two walks. Ryan Ludwick hit a three-run homer in the first inning for the Cardinals, who have won five of their last six games.

Colby Rasmus was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI and only a triple shy of the cycle. Ryan Franklin got the closing two outs and lowered his earned-run average to 0.83.

Milwaukee's Yovani Gallardo (8-6) gave up four runs on six hits with five walks.

Corey Hart was 3-for-4 for the Brewers.
