ANAHEIM, Calif., July 7 (UPI) -- Jeff Mathis had a three-run homer and Juan Rivera had three hits, two RBI and a run scored Monday to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 9-4 win over Texas.
Jered Weaver (9-3) went seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and one walk to get the win for the Angels, who took over sole possession of first place in the AL West with their third straight win and their 10th victory in their last 13 games.
Torii Hunter had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice, Kendry Morales and Vladimir Guerrero each had one RBI and one run scored for LA.
Rangers' starter Kevin Millwood (8-6) allowed a career-high nine runs before leaving after five innings.
Ian Kinsler had a two-run homer and Hank Blalock drove in a run for Texas, which had won five straight coming into the contest.
