Tommie Harris' wife dies

BOSTON, July 7 (UPI) -- Jason Varitek knocked in a pair of runs, and Jason Bay homered and scored twice, Tuesday to power the Boston Red Sox' 5-2 win over Oakland.
Josh Beckett (10-3) got the victory by holding the Athletics to two runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings. Jonathan Papelbon got the final three outs for his 21st save.
Scott Hairston homered and Adam Kennedy drove in the other run for the Athletics.
Dana Eveland (1-3) took the loss after giving up four runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.
