ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 6 (UPI) -- Dinara Safina, despite a semifinal defeat at Wimbledon, remains the top-ranked player in women's tennis.

While the Williams sisters competed for the women's singles title at Wimbledon, Safina's advance to the tournament semifinals was enough to allow her to keep the top spot in the world rankings.

Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus for the title two days after the semifinals which featured the four top players in the world. In the semis, No. 3-ranked Venus Williams routed Safina and No. 2-ranked Serena Williams won a good match against fourth-ranked Elena Dementieva.

There were no changes in the Top 10 following the year's third major tournament. Safina has a comfortable lead over Serena Williams, despite Williams' third Wimbledon title, for the top spot. After Venus Williams and Dementieva, Svetlana Kuznetsova is ranked No. 5

Jelena Jankovic is still sixth with Vera Zvonareva in seventh and Victoria Azarenka ranked eighth. Caroline Wozniacki and Nadia Petrova round out the Top 10.
