WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., July 6 (UPI) -- Andy Roddick said he was injured during the Wimbledon final and has withdrawn from this week's U.S. Davis Cup matches against Croatia.

The United States is playing Croatia Friday-Sunday in Porec in a best-of-five series. The winner advances to the Davis Cup semifinals.

Roddick was announced last week as part of a U.S. Davis Cup squad that includes James Blake and the doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan. U.S. team captain Patrick McEnroe on Monday said Mardy Fish would replace Roddick.

Roddick owns 31 victories in Davis Cup singles matches, which is second only to John McEnroe (41) among U.S. players.

"Andy has been a stalwart for this team the past nine years and his dedication to Davis Cup and his teammates is unquestioned," Patrick McEnroe said.

Roddick injured his hip in a fall during the fourth set of Sunday's Wimbledon final against Roger Federer. Roddick paused briefly but continued the match, which went a record 30 games in the fifth set before Federer won.

Croatia has opted for the matches against the United States to be played on an indoor clay court.

The U.S.-Croatia winner will go against either Argentina or the Czech Republic in September in the Davis Cup semifinals.
