NEW YORK, July 6 (UPI) -- Forward Christopher Higgins reached a contract agreement Monday with the New York Rangers.

It wasn't disclosed how much the Rangers will pay the restricted free agent or how long the contract is for.

The Rangers picked up Higgins, Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko from the Montreal Canadiens June 30. They gave up Scott Gomez, Tom Pyatt and Mike Busto.

Higgins, 26, scored a career-high 27 goals and 25 assists for 52 points in 82 games two years ago for Montreal. But he slipped to 12 goals and 11 assists in 57 games this past season.

The five-year veteran has 84 goals and 67 assists in 282 games with the Canadians.
