SANDY, Utah, July 4 (UPI) -- Chris Leach put the ball into his own goal in the first minute of extra time Friday, allowing Real Salt Lake to escape with a 1-1 tie against San Jose.

San Jose (3-8-4) appeared headed for its first two-game winning streak of the season before Leach's mishap. Salt Lake played with just 10 men for the final 20 minutes after Fabian Espindola was ejected for what was deemed to be a serious foul.

Arturo Alvarez gave San Jose a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute with his fifth goal of the season.

Salt Lake (5-6-5) remained unbeaten in its last five games.
