PORTLAND, Ore., July 4 (UPI) -- The Oregonian newspaper reported Friday that forward Hedo Turkoglu, who earlier in the day appeared headed to Portland, had broken off talks with the team.
Turkoglu, 30, has spent the last five seasons with Orlando, but last week opted out of the final year of a contract that would have paid him $7.3 million.
There were reports Friday that Turkoglu had agreed to a five-year, $50 million contract with the Trail Blazers. The Oregonian said later, however, that Turkoglu had rejected the offer.
Turkoglu averaged 16.8 points in 77 games with Orlando last season and helped the Magic into the NBA Finals.
Orlando has already landed a replacement for Turkoglu, having worked out a trade with New Jersey for Vince Carter on the evening of the NBA Draft.
