SAN DIEGO, July 1 (UPI) -- Josh Banks and Heath Bell teamed up on the mound to lead the San Diego Padres to a 4-3 win over the visiting Houston Astros Tuesday.

Banks (1-0) gave up three runs on five hits and struck out four in seven innings in his first start of the season. Bell notched his 22nd save despite giving up a pair of walks in the bottom of the ninth.

The win snapped a six-game losing streak to the Astros, who scored all their runs in the third inning. Miguel Tejada scored the speedy Michael Bourn from first on a double and then came home himself on Lance Berkman's 17th home run.

The Padres scored a run in the fourth on an RBI triple by Adrian Gonzalez, who injured his knee sliding into third and left the game. His status immediately after the game was listed as day-to-day.

San Diego erupted for three runs in the seventh to grab the win off Chris Sampson (4-1), who was given the ball after a solid start by Mike Hampton. Hampton, who was coming off the 15-day disabled list, gave up one run on four hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out six.

Tony Gwynn doubled in two runs and then scored the game-winner on a single by David Eckstein.
