NEW YORK, July 1 (UPI) -- Melky Cabrera drove in three runs and Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run homer in the New York Yankees' 8-5 win over the Seattle Mariners Tuesday.

Cabrera doubled home the go-ahead run in a three-run eighth inning off Sean Wood (2-1) and the Yankees went on to win their sixth consecutive game.

Brian Bruney (3-0) picked up the win by pitching the eighth in relief of Joba Chamberlain, who gave up three runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. Chamberlain struck out four and walked three.

Russell Branyan drive in two runs for the Mariners and Ronny Cedeno homered.

After the start of the game was delayed an hour by rain, the Yankees took a 2-0 lead on a pair of singles followed by a bad throw by third baseman Chris Woodward on a chopper by Hideki Matsui that allowed one run to score. Cabrera drove in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Cedeno got Seattle on the board with a solo home run in the third only to have Cabrera made it 3-1 in the fourth on a fielder's choice that drove in Robinson Cano

The Mariners scored a pair of runs in the fifth to tie the score 3-3, but Rodriguez sent a 2-2 pitch from Chris Jakubauskas over the left field wall in the seventh to put New York on top 5-3.

Seattle battled back to tie it up again with two runs in the eighth on three consecutive singles and Branyan's sacrifice fly.

The Yankees came back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win. Derek Jeter drove in two runs with a base hit after Cabrera doubled home pinch-runner Brett Gardner with what proved to be the game-winning run.
