ATLANTA, July 1 (UPI) -- Matt Diaz and Diory Hernandez hit home runs during a six-run fifth Wednesday, powering Atlanta to an 11-1 drubbing of Philadelphia.
Jair Jurrjens (6-6) and two relievers combined on a two-hitter, helping the Braves to their third straight win. The Phillies saw their lead over Florida trimmed to a half game in the National League East. Although they are in fourth place in the division, Atlanta is only three games behind the Phillies.
Philadelphia did not manage a hit until the seventh inning, when Paul Bako sliced a two-out single into right off Jurrjens.
One night after driving in four runs, Martin Prado accounted for two more. Chipper Jones had three RBI, and both Brian McCann and Matt Diaz had two.
Prado had a two-run double and Jones singled in a run in the third. Atlanta then broke it open in the fifth by batting around against Cole Hamels (4-5).
Jones contributed a two-run double in the inning, McCann singled Jones home and Diaz then brought in McCann with his fourth homer of the year.
Two outs later, Hernandez also produced his fourth homer.
Hamels, the MVP of last year's World Series, has allowed 11 earned runs over his last 8 2/3 innings.
