
OAKLAND, Calif., June 30 (UPI) -- Ryan Sweeney had three hits, including a solo homer, and drove in two runs Monday when the Oakland Athletics beat Detroit 7-1 to end a five-game losing streak.
Matt Holliday had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run, Mark Ellis stroked a two-run homer and Kurt Suzuki had an RBI double for the A's.
Oakland starter Brett Anderson (4-7) got the win, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.
The Tigers, losers in three of their last four games, got their only run on a Gerald Laird RBI double in the sixth inning.
Starter Rick Porcello (8-5) gave up five runs on nine hits with two walks and no strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Oakland scored twice in the fourth inning on Suzuki's double and an infield hit by Sweeney. The A's came up with three more in the fifth when Ellis homered and Adam Kennedy scored on a ground out.
