LONDON, June 29 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Andy Murray survived a five-set scare Monday during fourth-round play at the Wimbledon Championships in London.

Murray dropped the first set but seemed back on his game before Stanislas Wawrinka got a late fourth-set break and sent the match to the fifth set. Murray, however, was able to get an early break and hold on for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 win.

Wawrinka seemingly had Murray on the ropes, piling up 13 break-point chances but Murray lost just three of those points.

Murray drew Juan Carlos Ferrero in the quarterfinals. Ferrero ousted eighth-seeded Gilles Simon 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 6-2 in his Monday match.

No. 2-seeded Roger Federer handled 13th-seeded Robin Soderling for the 11th time in 11 career meetings. The last previous match was in the finals of the French Open. Like that one, this one was over in three sets, with Federer advancing with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5).

He could well see more tiebreakers in the quarterfinals where 22nd-seeded Ivo Karlovic awaits. Karlovic defeated No. 7-seeded Fernando Verdasco 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 7-6 (11-9). The hard-serving Karlovic has had only four break points -- all in his opening-round match -- in the tournament.

Sixth-seeded Andy Roddick earned a quarterfinals slot against Lleyton Hewitt, who upset 23rd-seeded Radek Stepanek 4-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. Roddick on Monday was a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-3 winner over Tomas Berdych.

The fourth quarterfinal has fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic playing 24th-seeded Tommy Haas. Djokovic beat Dudi Sela 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 Monday and has dropped just one set in the tournament. Haas advanced 7-6 (10-8), 6-4, 6-4 at the expense of Igor Andreev.
