MUNICH, Germany, June 28 (UPI) -- England's Nick Dougherty shot 8-under-par 64 Sunday and rallied to win the European Tour's BMW International golf tournament in Munich, Germany, by one stroke.

His 72-hole total, 22-under 266, beat Argentina's Rafa Echenique (62).

"I putted super, but I didn't feel like I had great control off the tee today," Dougherty told reporters after winning a tournament for the first time since the 2007 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. "Since Mom passed away, I haven't played great. My golf has been really bad."

He faced a three-stroke deficit when the final round started and was tied with countryman David Drysdale.

His Sunday playing partner, South Africa's Retief Goosen, the leader after each of the first three rounds, shot only 1-under 71, making a birdie at the 18th and final hole, to finish alone in third place at 18-under 270.

Hometown favorite Bernhard Langer shot even-par 72 and his total, 15-under 273, left him tied for ninth place.
