SANDY, Utah, June 28 (UPI) -- Clint Mathis scored a goal and had an assist as Real Salt Lake defeated Toronto FC 3-0 Saturday.

Yura Movsisyan and Kyle Beckerman each added a goal for Real Salt Lake (5-6-4). RSL, in fifth place in the Western Conference, moved to within nine points of the first-place Houston Dynamo.

The loss kept Toronto FC (6-6-4) from overtaking D.C. United for first place in the Eastern Conference. Toronto is tied with the Columbus Crew for second in the East.

Movsisyan scored his third goal in the last four games in the 21st minute, taking the ball at midfield on a no-look pass from Toronto midfielder Amado Guevara, and then easily scoring on TFC goalie Stefan Frei.

Before the half ended, Beckerman took a set-up from Mathis and Javier Morales and put away the goal from eight yards.

Ned Grabavoy attracted defenders to midfield, and then passed to Mathis on the right, and Mathis converted in the 78th minute.
