
PHOENIX, June 28 (UPI) -- Gary Matthews Jr. had a three-run double and stole home Sunday, helping the Los Angeles Angels to a 12-8 inter-league victory over Arizona.
The American League West-leading Angels completed a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks.
Maicer Izturis had two hits, including a ninth-inning two-run home run, and scored three times. Juan Rivera drove in two runs with his only hit of the game, a two-run homer in the fifth.
Jeff Mathis hit a solo homer in the eighth, Chone Figgins had one RBI and Kendry Morales added three hits for the Angels, who have won five in a row.
LA starter Matt Palmer (7-1) got the win, despite allowing six runs on 10 hits with two walks and no strikeouts over five innings.
Arizona's Gerardo Parra, Miguel Montero and Tony Clark all had two RBI. Stephen Drew and Mark Reynolds had one RBI each for the Diamondbacks, who committed four errors in their fifth straight loss.
Diamondbacks' starter Max Scherzer (5-5) allowed eight runs on just four hits in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss. Scherzer walked three and struck out two.
