NEW YORK, June 27 (UPI) -- CC Sabathia allowed three hits over seven innings Friday and Brett Gardner went 5-for-6, sending the New York Yankees to a 9-1 win over the New York Mets.
Sabathia (7-4) allowed just a run and struck out eight without a walk, retiring the side in each of the first four innings. He also contributed an RBI and scored a run before giving way to Brett Tomko, who worked two perfect innings.
After losing three straight, the Yankees have won three in a row.
The Yankees scored four times in the second, two of the runs unearned, and were then shut down until they staged a late rush.
Gardner hit a solo homer in the eighth and Alex Rodriguez added a two-run blast in the same inning. It was the 564th career homer for Rodriguez, moving him into 11th place on the all-time list.
Gardner contributed an RBI triple during a two-run ninth.
Mike Pelfrey (5-3) allowed four runs on six hits in five innings to take the loss. He has just one win in his last nine starts.
The Mets have dropped six out of 10.
