PHOENIX, June 27 (UPI) -- Torii Hunter climaxed an eight-run second inning with a two-run homer Friday and the Los Angeles Angels went on to smash Arizona 12-3.
The Angels won their third straight and improved to 12-4 in inter-league play this season, best in the majors.
All eight runs in the second came against Billy Buckner (3-5). Los Angeles pounded out seven hits in the inning. Erick Aybar and Bobby Abreu had RBI singles in the frame, Jeff Mathis drove in a run with a double and Maicer Izturis tripled in two more.
Pitcher Jered Weaver also had an RBI with a fielder's choice grounder, all of that happening before Hunter launched a homer to right on a 2-2 pitch that finally drove Buckner from the mound.
Weaver (8-3) went six innings to get the win, giving up three runs on four hits. He came into the game with the third best ERA in the American League at 2.53.
