HOUSTON, June 27 (UPI) -- Miguel Tejada started one Houston rally in the third and finished one in the eighth Friday, bringing the Astros a 5-4 victory over Detroit.
The Tigers jumped to a quick 4-0 lead before Houston began clawing its way back to a second straight victory.
Although the Astros are in fifth place in the National League Central and are three games below .500, they are only four games behind division co-leaders St. Louis and Milwaukee.
Tejada doubled in a run in the third and scored later in the inning on a single by Hunter Pence.
Matt Kata brought Houston within a run in the sixth with an RBI single and the Astros completed their rally with a two-run eighth.
Houston loaded the bases against Joel Zumaya (3-2) on a single by Kazuo Matsui and walks to Darin Erstad and Michael Bourn. Another walk to Jeff Keppinger forced in the tying run and, after Freddy Dolsi relieved Zumaya, Tejada lifted a sacrifice fly to left that put the Astros in front.
The comeback made a winner out of Chris Sampson (4-0), who recorded the final out in the eighth.
LaTroy Hawkins worked the ninth for his 10th save.
Detroit built its early lead on a solo homer in the first by Miguel Cabrera and a three-run shot in the second by Placido Polanco.
