LONDON, June 27 (UPI) -- American teenager Melanie Oudin stunned sixth-seeded Jelena Jankovic Saturday 6-7 (8-10), 7-5, 6-2 in a women's third-round match at Wimbledon.
Oudin's biggest career victory came on a day when No. 3 seed Venus Williams overpowered Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro 6-0, 6-4, continuing her quest for a second straight title and sixth at the All England Club this decade.
The 17-year-old Oudin said she believed she could win despite losing the first set.
"I had so many chances in the first set so I knew I was right there with her," Oudin said. "I just tried to think she was any other player and this was any other match and I was at any other tournament."
Elsewhere, unseeded Sabine Lisicki of Germany was a 6-2, 7-5 victor against No. 5 Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia; No. 9 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark beat Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-2, 6-2; and former Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo of France topped 15th-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy 7-5, 6-3.
