NEW YORK, June 26 (UPI) -- The New York Yankees will become the first Major League Baseball team to enable hometown cable subscribers to catch games on computers, officials said.

MLB Advanced Media, the interactive media and Internet arm of Major League Baseball, will team with the YES Network and Cablevision to deliver live games online to Cablevision customers in the Yankees' home broadcasting territory.

The service, available starting July 8, will cost $49.95 for the rest of this season or $19.95 for a 30-day period, and will be available only to Cablevision subscribers in the YES network, company officials said.

"It is important that fans in local markets have portable flexibility to stay connected to their favorite team if they can't be at the ballpark, and I believe this represents a significant step in that direction," MLB Commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement.

MLB Advanced Media has streamed out-of-market games on MLB.TV since 1992, but the Yankees deal marks the first time hometown fans will be able to catch their team on computers in the team's geographic market.
