Rookie sensation leads Wegmans LPGA

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 26 (UPI) -- Jiyai Shin, easily the top rookie on the women's golf circuit this year, fired a 4-under 68 Friday to lead the rain-delayed Wegmans LPGA.

After winning the Women's British Open last year, Shin joined the LPGA Tour this season and has a first, second and third-place finish to her credit. She is fourth on the year's money list.

Shin finished 36 holes at the Locust Hill Country Club course in 11-under 133 and was three shots in front when play was suspended by darkness.

Heavy rains Thursday left the tournament behind schedule and another delay Friday added to the problems.

Morgan Pressel was at 8-under with four holes to play when play was stopped. First-round leader Sandra Gal was at 7-under 137.

Others at 7-under included Stacy Lewis with three holes left, Kristy McPherson with four holes remaining and Michelle Wie with six holes to go.

Wie is seeking her first LPGA Tour victory in her first season on the circuit. She has not missed a cut in her nine previous appearances and has a second- and third-place finish.
