Perry keeps lead at Travelers

CROMWELL, Conn., June 26 (UPI) -- Kenny Perry owned a two-shot lead Friday when play in the second round of the Travelers Championship was suspended by rain.

Thunderstorms moved into the area shortly before the first of the afternoon starters could complete play and the round was suspended 90 minutes later. Tournament officials said the second round would resume Saturday at 8 a.m. EDT.

Perry shot a 68 over the TPC-River Highlands course Friday for a 36-hole total of 11-under 129. Ryan Moore was alone in second at 131 following a 65 and former U.S. Amateur champion Colt Knost and Aaron Watkins had finished play at 8-under 132. Also at 8-under were David Toms, Paul Goydos and Anthony Kim, all of whom had five holes left to play, and Spencer Levin, who had nine holes remaining.

Perry, who has not missed a cut on the PGA Tour this year but has not had a finish in the top 25 since losing in a playoff at the Masters, is seeking his 14th title.

"I am happy with the round," he said. "I hit 16 greens and didn't miss a fairway, but had 33 putts today. I had 25 putts yesterday, so that's eight strokes and that's the difference between my two rounds."

Michael Allen, who won the Senior PGA Championship earlier this year, shot a 65 Friday and was tied for ninth place at 133. Only six players over the age of 50 have ever won on the PGA Tour, the most recent being Fred Funk in 2007.

U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover settled for a 71 Friday and was tied for 45th at 136.
