SEATTLE, June 25 (UPI) -- Ichiro Suzuki hit a leadoff homer in the first inning Thursday and the Seattle Mariners produced a 15-hit outburst in whipping San Diego 9-3.
Suzuki finished a triple shy of the cycle and Mike Sweeney had four hits with two RBI, helping the Mariners to their second win in the series and to their seventh triumph in 10 outings.
Seattle took control with a four-run first. After Suzuki's homer, the Mariners loaded the bases and Rob Johnson cleared them with a double off Wade LeBlanc (0-1).
Jarrod Washburn (4-5) picked up his first win since April 21, a span of 10 starts. He gave up six hits and two runs in six innings.
Wladimir Balentien added a solo homer in the fifth to give Seattle a 6-0 lead.
Suzuki's leadoff home run was his second of the year and the 29th of his career.
