HOUSTON, June 25 (UPI) -- Miguel Olivo hit a towering homer on the first pitch of the 11th inning Wednesday, giving Kansas City a wild 4-3 victory over Houston.
Kansas City forced extra innings with a run in the ninth and both teams scored in the 10th before Olivo hit his game-winning blast off Jeff Fulchino (2-3).
The Royals tied it in the ninth with an unearned run, which came after Mitch Maier reached on first baseman Lance Berkman's fielding error. Maier later scored on a single by David DeJesus.
Kansas City took the lead in the 10th on a homer by Brayan Pena, but the Astros tied it in the bottom half of the inning when Matt Kata singled in Ivan Rodriguez from second.
Joakim Soria (2-0) got the win despite giving up the tying run in the 10th. John Bale was perfect in the bottom of the 11th for his first career save.
