LONDON, June 25 (UPI) -- French Open semifinalist and world No. 5 Juan Martin del Potro was upset in straight sets Thursday in the second round of the Wimbledon championships in London.

Lleyton Hewitt swept out del Potro 6-3, 7-5, 7-5. Del Potro pushed eventual champion Roger Federer to five sets in the French Open semis but couldn't get traction against Hewitt.

Hewitt was able to save six break-point situations in the first set and only saw two others the rest of the match. One of those was when he served at 5-4 in the third set but del Potro was able to extend the match. However, Hewitt broke right back and then served out for the win.

No. 3-seeded Andy Murray had only five unforced errors in an efficient 6-2, 7-5, 6-3 win over Ernests Gulbis to get to the third round.

Sixth-seeded Andy Roddick reached the third round with a 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 triumph over Igor Kunitsyn. Roddick had 18 aces and Kunitsyn managed just two break-point situations -- both in the third set.

No. 8-seeded Gilles Simon also won in four sets, defeating Thiago Alves 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Simon had 55 winners, including 22 aces.

Also, 10th-seeded Fernando Gonzalez dropped a first-set tiebreaker but won the next three sets over Leonardo Mayer while 12th-seeded Nikolay Davydenko and No. 16-seeded David Ferrer advanced in straight sets.
