NEW YORK, June 24 (UPI) -- David Wright had four of New York's 16 hits Wednesday, Nick Evans delivered a two-run homer and the Mets blasted St. Louis 11-0.

The four hits equaled Wright's career high and he scored three times, helping the Mets move within 1 1/2 games of division-leading Philadelphia in the National League East.

Evans hit his homer, the third of his career, during a three-run fourth and the Mets broke things open with seven runs during the sixth and seventh innings. Fernando Tatis had three RBI.

Fernando Nieve (3-0) gave up three hits with five strikeouts and four walks in six innings to collect the victory. His contract was purchased from Class AAA Buffalo on June 5 after J.J. Putz went on the 15-day disabled list.

Brad Thompson (2-3) coughed up five runs on eight hits with a walk in five-plus innings.
