WASHINGTON, June 21 (UPI) -- Lyle Overbay had three hits and five RBI Sunday to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 9-4 inter-league win over Washington, averting a three-game sweep.
Overbay hit two-run singles in the first and ninth innings and a solo homer in the third. Alex Rios scored twice with two hits and three RBI.
Vernon Wells drove in a run, while Marco Scutaro added a run and three hits for the Blue Jays, who have won four of six overall.
Starter Ricky Romero (4-3) went seven innings, giving up two runs on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts to get the win.
Josh Bard led Washington with three hits and two RBI. Adam Dunn had two hits and one RBI, Josh Willingham drove in a run and both Nick Johnson and Cristian Guzman had two hits for the Nationals, who had won four in a row before Sunday's setback.
Ryan Zimmerman went 0-for-5 and is hitless in his last 17 at-bats.
Washington starter Shairon Martis (5-2) went five innings, giving up six runs on eight hits with two walks and one strikeout to take the loss.
The Nationals went 4-for-16 with runners in scoring position.
