MLB: LA Dodgers 5, LA Angels 3

ANAHEIM, Calif., June 21 (UPI) -- Seven shutout innings from Clayton Kershaw carried the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Angels 5-3 in an inter-league game Sunday.

Kershaw (4-5) held the Angels to four hits and four walks while striking out five in the finale of the three-game Freeway Series in Anaheim.

Angels' starter John Lackey (2-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits in eight innings.

James Loney hit a two-run homer and Juan Pierre drove in a pair of runs for the Dodgers. Pierre drove in the first Dodgers run with a double in the second inning, scoring Matt Kemp from second.

The Angels threatened in the fifth, loading the bases with no one out, but Kershaw turned a 1-2-3 double play on a grounder to the mound by Bobby Abreu and then got Torii Hunter on a pop up to end the inning.

Pierre doubled Kemp home again in the seventh to put the Dodgers ahead 2-0 and Loney's homer in the eighth made 4-0.

The Angels managed to score their first run in the eighth after Kershaw had departed for the evening. Juan Rivera scored from third on a ground ball by Kendry Morales when Casey Blake's throw to first went wide.

Blake atoned in the ninth with an RBI single that scored Pierre to make it 5-1.

The Angels scored twice in the bottom of the ninth off closer Jonathan Broxton, who hung on for his 17th save of the season.
