OAKLAND, Calif., June 20 (UPI) -- Ryan Johnson scored in the 54th minute Saturday to lead the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-1 Major League Soccer victory against Los Angeles.

Johnson's sixth goal this season put the Earthquakes in front 2-0. Pablo Campos had given San Jose a 1-0 lead by converting a penalty kick in the game's 6th minute.

The Earthquakes (3-8-3) won for just the second time in their last 12 contests. They had entered the game tied with the New York Red Bulls with an MLS-low nine points.

The Galaxy's Jovan Kirovski prevented a shutout by scoring in the 65th minute on a free kick after a header from Alan Gordon.

The loss dropped LA to 2-3-9. They suffered a 2-0 loss to Real Salt Lake last Saturday.
