ATLANTA, June 19 (UPI) -- Former Atlanta pitcher Tom Glavine will reportedly sit out the rest of the 2009 season, but does not plan to announce his retirement.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Friday that Glavine sent a text message saying he would not sign with any team until next season.

Glavine, 43, was recently released by the Braves, who would have had to pay him a $1 million bonus if he had remained on the major league roster. Tommy Hanson took Glavine's spot on the roster and he has won his last two starts.

Glavine has won two Cy Young Awards and 305 games, the most of any active pitcher. He has spent 22 years in the major leagues.
