CINCINNATI, June 19 (UPI) -- Brandon Phillips hit a two-run homer and contributed a sacrifice fly Friday, helping the Cincinnati Reds edge the Chicago White Sox 4-3 in inter-league play.
The Reds beat the White Sox for the first time in 11 years, having lost nine in a row to Chicago in that span. Cincinnati has three victories in its last four games after having dropped its previous four.
Bronson Arroyo (8-5) surrendered two runs on two hits over 6 2/3 to get the win. He struck out a season-high seven.
Francisco Cordero gave up a leadoff homer to Paul Konerko in the ninth and also allowed a two-out single to Brian Anderson. Cordero, however, got his 17th save when Gordon Beckham grounded into a force play to end the game.
Jose Contreras (2-6) took the loss, giving up three runs on nine hits over six innings.
Phillips gave Cincinnati a 3-2 lead in the sixth with his 11th homer of the year. His sacrifice fly came one inning later.
