KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 18 (UPI) -- Justin Upton had three of Arizona's 16 hits Thursday, Gerardo Parra drove in three runs and the Diamondbacks routed Kansas City 12-5.
The starting pitchers -- Arizona's Dan Haren and Kansas City's Luke Hochevar -- were coming off complete-game efforts. Instead of a pitcher's duel, however, an offensive show developed that continued all the way through Kansas City's three-run ninth inning.
Parra tripled in two runs during a four-run third and tacked on a solo homer in the sixth. Eric Byrnes had a solo shot for the Diamondbacks and an RBI single during a three-run fifth.
Haren (7-4) got the win by giving up two runs on seven hits in seven innings.
Hochevar (2-3) was roughed up for six runs on nine hits in four frames.
Arizona downed the Royals for the second straight night.
