Ian Snell took advantage of the home runs to post his first victory since April 18.
Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run blast in the third inning to get Pittsburgh started and, after Minnesota tied it in the bottom half of the third, Andy LaRoche produced a two-run shot of his own in the fourth.
Adam LaRoche added a solo homer in the eighth and then delivered a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
Snell (2-7) won on the road for the first time this season, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings.
Minnesota's Francisco Liriano (2-8) continued to struggle, taking the inter-league loss while surrendering four runs on eight hits in seven frames.
