SAN FRANCISCO, June 16 (UPI) -- John Lackey went seven strong innings and knocked in a run with his first MLB hit Monday in the Los Angeles Angels' 9-7 inter-league win over San Francisco.

Erick Aybar hit a two-run homer and Robb Quinlan stroked a two-run double in the fourth inning, when the Angels scored seven times to blow the game open. Up by 9-4 in the ninth, LA came very close to blowing the lead when Pablo Sandoval hit his second homer of the night -- a two-out, three-run blast off reliever Kevin Jepsen.

Angels closer Brian Fuentes came on to get the final out and record his 17th save.

Lackey (2-2) struck out 10, walked no one and allowed just three runs on 10 hits.

His offensive support also featured home runs by Juan Rivera, Bobby Abreu and Sean Rodriguez.

Angels center fielder Torii Hunter left the game after the fourth inning with a rib cage injury, after crashing into the center field wall trying to catch a deep fly ball by Giants catcher Bengie Molina.

Pinch-hitter Andres Torres hit a two-run homer for San Francisco.

Giants starter Barry Zito (3-7) allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and no walks.
