Kuznetsova, Jankovic lose at Eastbourne

EASTBOURNE, England, June 16 (UPI) -- French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova and U.S. Open runner-up Jelena Jankovic were first-round losers Tuesday at the Aegon International.

The second-seeded Kuznetsova, who won the women's French Open two weeks ago, lost to Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak 6-0, 6-3. Third-seeded former world No. 1 Jankovic lost to Russian Anna Chakvetadze 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2.

In another upset, former top-ranked star and former Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo defeated fourth-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

In other action, sixth-seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki beat Russian Alisa Kleybanova 6-3, 6-2 and eighth-seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska defeated her sister Urszula 6-1, 6-1. Agnieszka Radwanska is the defending Eastbourne champion.
