Vickers takes pole for Michigan auto race

BROOKLYN, Mich., June 13 (UPI) -- Brian Vickers will start from the pole position during Sunday's Sprint Cup LifeLock 400 auto race at Brooklyn, Mich.

He earned the pole Friday with a qualifying speed of 189.110 miles per hour, the second time in his career he accomplished the feat at the at Michigan International Speedway.

"We've had two really good qualifying efforts here," Vickers said. "We've always run really well here, and we thought we had a win here last year (but) there was a mixup at the end of the race with the positioning on the last restart. Hopefully we can get it back."

Kyle Busch took the outside pole with a lap at 188.536 mph.

Three-time defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson qualified third, followed by David Reutimann and Kurt Busch.

AJ Allmendinger, Juan Pablo Montoya, Kasey Kahne, Clint Bowyer and John Andretti completed the top-10.
