BROOKLYN, Mich., June 12 (UPI) -- Brian Vickers turned in a lap of 189.110 mph Friday to win the pole for Sunday's LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Vickers won his third pole of the season and the eighth of his Sprint Cup career. He also captured the pole for the August race on this track last year.
"We've always run really well here," Vickers said. "We thought we had a win here last year."
Kyle Busch had the second fastest qualifying speed at 188.536 mph, followed by three-time defending series champion Jimmie Johnson, David Reutimann and Kurt Bush.
The top 10 was completed by A.J. Allmendinger, Juan Pablo Montana, Kasey Kahne, Clint Boyer and John Andretti. Current points' leader Tony Stewart will start 11th.
