Brian Gay leads St. Jude Classic

MEMPHIS, June 12 (UPI) -- Brian Gay owned a two-shot lead during the second round of the St. Jude Classic Friday when play was halted because of bad weather.

The first players with afternoon tee times had almost completed their rounds when the action was stopped.

Gay had an early starting time and he fired a 4-under 66 over the TPC-Southwind course for a two-day total of 130. Bryce Molder was at 8-under 132 after shooting a 63 and Robert Allenby also was at 8-under with three holes to play.

Woody Austin and Guy Boros were both at 133.

Phil Mickelson, playing for the first time since his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, stood at 4-under with three holes remaining. He had hit his drive on the par-5 16th hole just into the left rough when play was suspended.

During the day, the 36-hole cut line moved back and forth between even par and 1-under, and where it winds up when play resumes Saturday will have a major impact on John Daly.

Daly, returning from a six-month suspension, double bogeyed the final hole to complete two rounds at even-par 140.

Gay already owns a victory on the PGA Tour this year, having shot 20-under par at the Heritage Classic to win that tournament by 10 shots. He did not have a round higher than 67 that week.
