
PHOENIX, June 11 (UPI) -- Max Scherzer hurled 7 2/3 scoreless innings Thursday, helping the Arizona Diamondbacks record a 2-1 win over the San Francisco Giants.
Scherzer (3-4) gave up three hits in his 116 pitches with one walk and six strikeouts.
Closer Chad Qualls, the last of three pitchers, earned his 13th save despite giving up a run on a ninth-inning wild pitch.
Justin Upton drove in both runs with a third-inning homer and a seventh-inning single for the Diamondbacks, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Arizona's Stephen Drew went 0-for-3 and saw his 14-game hitting streak stopped.
San Francisco's Jose Uribe scored on the two-out wild pitch by Qualls. Aaron Rowand had two of the four hits for the Giants, who have split their last four contests.
Losing pitcher Jonathan Sanchez (2-6) surrendered an earned run and just three hits in 5 2/3 innings with seven walks and five strikeouts.
