BIRMINGHAM, England, June 10 (UPI) -- No. 3-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak was a straight-set winner Wednesday in the second round of the rain-plagued $220,000 Aegon Classic in England.

Four matches were suspended Tuesday because of rain and 12 more were either suspended or postponed Wednesday.

Wozniak got her match in in an efficient 77 minutes, stopping Olga Govortsova 6-4, 6-4. The difference in the tight match was Wozniak's success on Govortsova's second serve.

There were a pair of upsets Wednesday as sixth-seeded Ekaterina Makarova was toppled 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 by Stefanie Voegele and 12th-seeded Tamarine Tanasugarn fell 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4 to Naomi Cavaday.

In the other second-round match completed Wednesday, crowd favorite Anne Keothavong was ousted 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) by Sania Mirza.

Among the matches suspended Wednesday was Maria Sharapova's. She was ahead of Alexa Glatch 6-3, 5-4 when play was stopped.

First-round winners were No. 15-seeded Aravane Rezai, Alla Kudryavtseva, Lilia Osterloh and Chanelle Scheepers.
