ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 10 (UPI) -- Willy Aybar drove in the first of five Tampa Bay runs in the second Wednesday and added a two-run homer, lifting the Rays past the Los Angeles Angels 9-5.
Tampa Bay ended a three-game losing streak in emphatic fashion, overcoming an early three-run deficit.
The Rays sent eight men to the plate in the second, getting run-scoring hits from Aybar and Gabe Gross before Dioner Navarro drove in the third run of the inning on a ground out.
Gross later came in on a wild pitch and Carl Crawford's RBI single finished the scoring.
Carlos Pena homered for one of two Tampa Bay runs in the third and the Rays got two more in the fifth on Aybar's fifth home run of the season.
Lance Cormier (1-1) picked up the win with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief after starter Jeff Niemann had given up four runs in 3 2/3 frames.
John Lackey (1-2) surrendered eight runs on 11 hits over five innings to take the loss.
