JACKSON, Miss., June 10 (UPI) -- Doctors in Mississippi are hoping to save the leg of Champions Tour golfer Ken Green who was injured in an accident outside Meridian, his manager says.
Green, 50, was on Interstate 20 when a tire blew on his RV, killing his brother, Billy, his girlfriend Jeannie Hodgin and his German Shepard, Nip, Golf Digest reported Wednesday.
Green, who said his brother was driving at the time of the accident, was taken to University Medical Center in Jackson, Miss. Monday with a broken left eye orbital and a left distal tibia fracture, manager Kevin Richardson told Golf Digest.
Richardson said he learned from a nurse at the hospital that doctors were watching for an infection and monitoring the soft tissue loss in Green's leg.
As for his eye, Richardson said doctors put sutures around the fracture and plan to reevaluate Green in a few days.
Green was a top PGA golfer in the 1980s and early '90s, winning five times and playing on the 1989 Ryder Cup team.
