Germans claim four tennis upset wins

HALLE, Germany, June 10 (UPI) -- Tommy Haas was among four German players who posted second-round upsets Wednesday at the $1 million Gerry Weber Open tennis tournament in Germany.

Haas knocked off fourth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) behind a solid serving game. Haas allowed just three break chances successfully defending them all. He won 80 percent of the points while on serve,

His countrymen Mischa Zverev, Philipp Kohlschreiber and Benjamin Becker also advanced with upset wins. Zverev survived two match points and a long third-set tiebreaker in taking out fifth-seeded Tomas Berdych 3-6, 6-2 7-6 (10-8).

Kohlschreiber beat sixth-seeded Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) and Becker was a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 winner over No. 8-seeded Rainer Schuettler.

In a first-round match, Lukas Lacko defeated Harel Levy 7-6 (8-6), 6-2. Lacko entered the field when top-seeded Roger Federer withdrew from the tournament.
