PITTSBURGH, June 9 (UPI) -- Tyler Kennedy scored in the third period Tuesday to give Pittsburgh a 2-1 victory over Detroit and a 3-3 tie in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Jordan Staal also scored for Pittsburgh, which forced a Game 7 Friday in Detroit.

This is the first time the Cup Finals have gone seven games since 2006, when the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Edmonton Oilers.

Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves.

Kris Draper scored the lone goal for the Red Wings, who will try to claim their second straight title at home where they are 11-1 in this year's playoffs. Detroit goalie Chris Osgood blocked 29 shots.
