BRISTOL, Conn., June 8 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Vikings have given quarterback Brett Favre a deadline to make a decision about coming out of retirement, sources told ESPN.
Vikings Coach Brad Childress wants Favre to decide by this week whether he will play in 2009, the sources said.
Favre retired in February for the second time in as many years. The New York Jets, at his request, granted him his release, freeing him to sign with another club.
Favre previously retired after the 2007 season with the Green Bay Packers. He subsequently changed his mind and the Packers traded him to the Jets. Favre now has a chance to play for the Vikings if his injured shoulder is healed.
Last season Favre was hampered by a torn biceps tendon in his passing shoulder. ESPN reported Sunday that Favre had arthroscopic surgery on the shoulder, but said Favre remains unable to make a commitment to return because throwing sessions indicated the shoulder is not 100 percent healthy.
