
DETROIT, June 7 (UPI) -- Clete Thomas hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday to give the Detroit Tigers a 9-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
Brandon Inge and Adam Everett each had two RBI for Detroit.
Rick Porcello pitched five innings but didn't figure in the decision. He allowed four runs on five hits with three walks. Joel Zumaya (2-0) got the win despite giving up a run and walking three batters in the eighth inning.
Juan Rivera had three hits, including a two-run homer, two doubles and three RBI. Chone Figgins added a solo homer for the Angels. Bobby Abreu doubled in the first inning for his 2,000th career hit.
Joe Saunders allowed four runs on seven hits and five walks. Jose Arredondo (1-3) took the loss after giving up two runs and walking two without allowing a hit in 1 1/3 innings.
