AUSTIN, Texas, June 5 (UPI) -- Bernhard Langer birdied four straight holes on the front nine Friday and three of the last six as well to lead after one round of the Triton Financial Classic.
Langer, a two-time winner this year on the Champions Tour, shot a 7-under 65 over the Jack Nicklaus-designed Hills Country Club course.
The former Masters champ began his birdie streak on the front side at the par-5 sixth and closed his round with birdies at the 14th, 16th and 18th holes.
He had a one-shot lead over David Eger and a two-shot edge over Mike McCullough. Eger never won on the regular PGA Tour and McCullough had only one victory.
Mark O'Meara, Mark Wiebe, Mark James, Dana Quigley, Jeff Sluman and Tom Kite were tied for fourth at 68.
Langer leads the Champions Tour this year in earnings and top-10 finishes, with seven.
